Using this blog

This blog is an example of how you could set yourself up with an eportfolio. These suggestions are very early draft and are for the purpose of demonstration.

Requirements:

  1. At the very least, you will need a free personal Google account which will allow you to use this with whatever email you specify.
  2. You will need to decide on whether this blog is public or private, but it needs to be shared with your FTP mentor.
  3. Your FTP mentor can subscribe to the blog via email - you can put their email address in or he/she can do this themselves. Once done, he/she will need to confirm the subscription by clicking the link in the email they receive. From then on, every post you do will send an email to your mentor.

Using The Blog to Capture Your Learning:

  1. Because this is a blog, it can be used in a highly flexible manner. The key thing to remember is to 'tag' items with specific labels so that they can be searched for and found. This creates the ability to sort and order the blog - sort of like a database. It provides more flexibility than a wiki or Google site.
  2. Make sure you use separate labels for itemising posts - this allows for flexibility in how the blog can be searched and sorted. For example:
    1. Items tagged with each of the labels: Culture, Systems, Pedagogy, Partnerships & Networks will bring up every post with that label. There is a link list to the right sidebar showing this for you and your mentor.
    2. Items tagged with other labels, such as 'Reflection' will create a topic of their own, thus enabling you to find items for future reference.
  3. Examples of other labels you might consider could be: Celebration, Challenge, CV, NZC, Curriculum, etc.
  4. You may use this blog to capture your learning beyond the FTPP programme, however you will need to decide on what you put up online - or not.
